Job Description:

  • Data Center Cabling Technician position is a self-motivated individual who must be punctual and reliable for this hands-on position that requires duties ranging from facility and data center operations including a very small maintenance back round and environmental services in a critical facility atmosphere.
  • The technician is a skilled professional responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing data cabling, internet connections, and LAN services.
  • The duties include running all types of cables, connecting wires, troubleshooting and repairing equipment, and ensuring that all systems are functioning properly.
  • They must have a good understanding of electrical systems, data cabling and have experience with hand and power tools.
  • This person must also be able to communicate effectively with customers and work well in a team environment.
  • This is a technical position that requires attention to detail and the ability to work independently as needed.

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • At the direction of the data center manager, monitors, and performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on critical equipment.
  • Install, maintain, and repair cable systems, including internet, video, and telephone services.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues with cable systems and equipment.
  • Test and verify cable system signal strength and quality.
  • Assist with addressing any customer concerns or complaints.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and regulations while performing job duties.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and advancements in cable technology.
  • Has a understanding of the Change, Asset, and Problem Management Systems in an digital environment.
  • Perform maintenance programs to prevent unscheduled outages; to include normal and emergency electrical, mechanical, and fire suppression and detection systems; must be able to provide training to peers.
  • Install, assemble and disassemble hardware and equipment & equipment cabinets.
  • Oversee 3rd party contractors and internal and external support vendors and consultants.
  • Travel is required in the position with a valid driver’s license and vehicle.
  • Some light Cleaning duties: Empty trash barrels. Remove pallets, cardboard boxes etc to the trash compactor. Vacuum rugs.
  • Maintain outside grounds as required. (small amount of shoveling and salting is required) during the winter months.
  • Shift and site cross training is a requirement in this position.
  • Carries company pager during the shift.

Additional Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Performs additional job duties as requested.
  • T. support (racking and stacking of hardware, hardware reboots) directed by information systems and the data center facility manager.
  • Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.
  • Security & facilities rounds and site tours.
  • Support deliveries. (shipping and receiving) Must be physically able to lift, up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, components, and peripheral accessories.
  • Strong customer-service orientation.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications and software such as MS Office, exchange, excel email (outlook), Service Now, BAS Tridium.
  • Work Request system, (service now) Check (day to day) calls, manage team queue to support the teams work effort.
  • May require 24x7 responsibilities including holidays, evening, nights and weekend hours as needed.
  • Work outside of normal shift hours is a requirement, as needed. (i.e. weekday after hours, nights or weekends).

  • Fill out a daily shift turn over report.
  • Providing a daily and weekly work summary report.
  • Communicate via our service now work order ticketing system.
  • Communicate via our customer and company E-mail system.

Education And Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 3+ years experience or associates degree in computer related field.

Certificates And/Or Licenses:

  • MUST have a Valid Driver’s License.
